Another Sharpie doodle

The wife came back from America with some fineline sharpies. An excellent pen. I will do some pen reviews here one of these days.

Castle

Posted in sketchbook by bird on October 22, 2011

Wow. At first glance, this is just another one of my ugly paintings. But look closer – what’s going on here?

The eye is drawn first to the character in the upper middle surrounded by red. Let’s say this represents Self. Around the self are a variety of dream-images. Upper left corner: Surprise. Lower left corner: A man with exposed brain proffers a chalice of blood. Lower middle: a pyramid of triangular connections representing knowledge. Lower right: ghosts, see-through, undead. Upper right: a castle, representing structures imposed from without (allusions to Kafka), part of the thoughts of one of the ghosts.

In the centre, a blue stickman attacked in the belly by a giant eye. The eye is at the top of the pyramid of knowledge. Could call it truth? Attacking the man in the gut – we feel truth in the gut.

Surrounding the picture is yellow (gold) with smiling faces. Outside the chaos, all is well.

As ever, my tongue is half in my cheek. But the picture needs a little clarification.
